“Ah~ That was a good movie.” Matt leaned back, grinning satisfactorily.
“Really? I thought the premise of the thing was ridiculous. Come now, snow covering half the globe?” Laeli looked at her roommate, an incredulous expression spread across her features.
“But... you’ve gotta admit, it was pretty intense. Boom! A snowstorm. Bam! An avalanche! Haha, I didn’t think my poor heart would make it!”
“Is snow really that scary?”
“No! Not at all! It’s beautiful!”
Matt suddenly sat up, his arms waving around to illustrate his point.
“When the snow falls, it catches the sunlight. It’s like glitter in the air, really. When we get better, I’ll take you to see snow!”
Glitter in the air. Imagining the sight made Laeli’s breath catch in her throat slightly. Snow...it seemed like it would be a magical sight to behold. She had heard from other people that snow was cold, too. Cold glitter falling from the sky--such things were happenings only described in fairy tales.
Of course, Laeli had never seen snow. Her primary residence was in California, far, far away from anything remotely resembling snow. She lived in a land of sun and sand... not that she ever visited the beach. Laeli had better things to do then waste her life ‘playing’ on the beach like a child, explaining her abnormally pale complexion.
But... snow.
Even the word sounded beautiful.
Laeli had read about snow, she had read about the ice ages, the reclining glaciers, the expeditions to Antarctica, even about the climbers of Mt. Everest. Yet, she had never seen snow herself. At the thought, Laeli scoffed a bit. How ironic. A scholar can study all she wants, but nothing can replace a first-person experience.
Laeli made a decision.
When she died, she would be reincarnated in a cold place, with lots of snow.
There was nothing death could do to stop her. If snow would lead Matt to make such happy expressions... she was sure that it was worth seeing at least once in her lifetime.
“Yeah, when we get better, I’ll take you to see snow!” Matt cheered, ruffling his white hair in the process while he waved his arms around enthusiastically.
Laeli paused, a bit confused. Hadn’t Matt said the exact same thing a few minutes ago? Laeli quickly dismissed the thought. Matt probably hadn’t realized that he was repeating himself.
And his hair...
The normally golden blond hair... the whiteness was probably a trick of the light.
The light, nothing more.
She swallowed her disquieting thoughts.
Hiding the worry beginning to appear on her face, Laeli gave a rare smile.
“Alright, I’ll look forward to that then, Matt.”
“Haha, yes m’am!”
So ended day 11.
