Why do you cry
Tears run down, a river of memories
Flowing from one reason to the next
It's all he said she said in this world
Hearts break, people leave, nothing's set in stone
And so, the dam breaks
Why do you smile
Lips curved up in joy, yet eyes full of pain
A mask to ward off comfort, keep the kindness at bay
For the world is cruel, sticks and stones and words
Believe me to be happy
And so, save me your time
Why do you hurt
Gasps and cries and choking
On a breath that will never come to exist
Empty, lonely holes retched out of a soul
Who's still learning the cost of being free
And so, old wounds bleed
Why do you laugh
Peals of sharp noise they are
Reviewing what lies ahead, what's already passed
Can we go any further, can we retrace our path? No.
Hearts break. People leave. Nothing's set in stone.
I already know.
And so, you do not understand.
How could you understand?
Tears run down, a river of memories
Flowing from one reason to the next
It's all he said she said in this world
