So a little while ago I finished a book called Speak. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't already read it.

I've been starting and never quite finishing stories for a few years now, but I was inspired to write a (most likely) short story. It's from the perspective of a high school girl - a junior - that's part of the more popular crowd, and her social struggles during the school year. The plot is a little fuzzy, and I will gladly take suggestions. Overall, the story is about changing views and acceptance - and I DO have an ending in mind, just not sure how to get there.

I have a short prologue and the beginning of the first chapter written out, but I want some feedback before posting it. What do you guys think? I want to write this as "real" as possible, so having other opinions will be vital. beg

(also note that I will not update as often as some people might - probably every break we get I'll add a bit and work out the tough spots)

    Ah~
That sounds like a fun story.

But, if it's going to be realistic, how will you be planning on keeping the plot going throughout the chapters? Will there be a separate event through each chapter that'll gradually accumulate to your ending, or are you planning on having the whole story flow in general?

Please, please post your story! I wanna read it. <3
Ah! Tell me too if you want a subforum for your story. I'd be happy to add one for you if you want to. Yay!

The chapters are each going to have some sort of purpose (for example, chapter one is basically an introduction to the story, while chapter two might be about setting up the actual conflict) but mainly just "flow in general" as you put it.

    Um, I don't think I need a subforum just yet. But thanks~

Here's a bit of the prologue for (Sophie) anyone who's a bit confused.

"Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. A painting takes on its own life; a poem goes from joyous to morose. And then there are people – while we can put them into groups, label them, judge them, we can never truly understand what makes them tick. Not until they do something entirely contrasting with what’s expected.
    Like go off and die."

    Woah.

That last line really pulled me in!
This story sounds interesting... Like, the main character seems like a kind of sarcastic, strong person. Haha, my favorite kind of character~

Of course, maybe not. But, whatever you write would probably be beautiful, Elayna. Yay!

A POPULAR GIRL? And a plot on acceptance and changing views? Set in high school, what's more?!
I was going to say "It's been done" (Hey,it was a very brief plot description, sorry!) but then I read the sentence about dying and I was like, "NO WAIT, IT HASN'T! I DON'T RECALL ANYONE DYING BEFORE! GO AND WRITE IT, IT SOUNDS AWESOME! " (Upon reflection, "awesome" is not the best word to describe a story about someone dying. But you get my drift.)

Just kindly, please don't include a scene where somebody gets covered in food and humiliated in front of the entire school, including his/her crush, during lunch. If that happens again in a high-schooler story I swear I will rip my hair out and feed it to my baby brother. Unless, of course, said scene is extremely well-written. Which I'm sure it would be, if you were the type to include lunchroom food-spilling scenes. But still...

Monika - I understand the hesitation. The only reason it's set in high school is that I feel more comfortable writing from the POV of character's I can sort of relate too. (like, in my age group or sharing some other trait) And I really haven't come across too many stories from the popular perspective - it's usually the underdog in the spotlight, from what I've seen. But critiism will only help me improve, so if I post a chapter and you see some horribly obvious cliche - PLEASE let me know. I shall try to keep them to a minimum, but unfortunately it'll be hard to stay entirely original. ;)

Thanks you guys - I'm almost done with chapter one. Still editing it and probably going to read it over a billion times before putting it up here though.

If anyone wants to suggest a scene/conversation/character let me know! It helps with writer's block. (Sophie.....you and your curse)
