Since we'll be using audacity for a lot of our projects this year, I thought it would be nice to make a short introduction to this software.
So, if you don't have it yet, download Audacity from here!
It's a very useful tool, and can help lots in organizing music and stuff.
If you have any questions, please comment below or ask me if you see me!
1. You can find the actual mp3 file in your folders by clicking on the 'Get Info' button in iTunes. This will let you work with the direct file in Audacity. Navigate to the location, and copy the mp3 to your desktop to make it easier to find.
2. Open up Audacity, and select the 'Import Audio' button from the 'Project' menu. This is what will get your mp3 file from your folders into the program. Navigate to the mp3 file that you chose in step 1.
3. Move the cursor to the area where you want your recording to start. Using the 'Select' button on the 'Edit' menu, you can select 'Start to Cursor'. This will trim your mp3 down from the beginning of your piece, to the area where you want your section to start.
4. Again using the 'Select' button, use 'Cursor to End' to finish cutting down your piece. And voila! Your 30 second section is complete!
5. In order to make your piece sound prettier, you can have the beginning and end fade in and out. To do this, select the first few seconds of your piece, and use the 'Fade In' or 'Fade Out' button from the 'Effects' menu.
6. In order to export this section as an mp3, you'll first need to download the LAME mp3 encoder. You can do that from here. It looks shady, but don't worry, it doesn't have an virus'. Select 'Export as mp3' from the 'File' menu.
7. Ta-da~ You're all set!
