    No Alarms and No Surprises

Post by iKevinly on August 18th 2011, 6:28 pm

    No Alarms and No Surprises

And in the room where twilight shines,
    The spider with nine legs,
    and red lines.

Trapped in a web of its kind,
    Spiders with eight legs,
    A sane mind.

There it tries, the nine-legged freak,
    Tries to break free,
    But it's much too weak.

And twisting and twirling in the trap,
    Finally one last breath,
    Finally a nap.

Finally the battle is over and through,
    The nine-legged lost,
    Nothing to pursue.

And happiness bleeds into her frail and shy heart,
    As the web entangles more,
    And its soul breaks apart.

Finally and finally, it's frail soul rises and rises.
Until it may one twilight evening wake up,
With No Alarms and No Surprises.

    (MUST RESPOND, MUST REPOND
    AND MUST RHYME!)

Holy cow Kevin, that was so neat!
    I'll respond in a rhyme-
    rhymes are sweet.

As I read your poem, I found myself thinking:
    Are the spiders us students,
    drowning, sinking?

But then I reread it, and then I could see it:
    A metaphor! The nine-legs a freak,
    a free spirit.

So if I'm very wrong then correct me, please do
    but if I understand,
    the different are doomed?

The mutants, the weirdos, the one-of-a-kinds
    are destined for death-
    those forgotten, cracked minds?

Or will they just sleep until the world
    All breaks down, crazy,
    madness unfurled?

A poem for a poem is a neat idea indeed.
Thank you, Ketchup Girl, your poem was a treat.

Sadly and coldly, I won't tell you what my poem means.
Although, I assure you, all you need is what you can see.

There is no hidden inside story,
There is nothing else but my poem and its glory.

And yet, you search for something I wish I had.
If this poem obtained it, I would surely be glad.

But no, this story has no message--as it is just simply a story.
It's a tale, my life with its extent of the sadness and the gory.

Search not for a meaning, search not for a special key.
Simply read it again and interpret what you see.

    It's a story,
    Not a key.
    Not a meaning,
    Just me.

No deep meaning, eh? Well, I have to say
I'm too used to deep stuff-
    I go to IA.

A poem with no annotations, no message too deep
    is so nice and rare-
    a treat.

But, wait! What is this I read you imply?
    The spider is... you?
    Why, Kevin? WHY?

Are you, Kevin Lee, the nine-legged spider
    in the web, tangled up,
    the outsider?

Do you think you're a freak
    whose body will shatter
    and spirit break?

Because if so, I am rather alarmed.
    I'm sincerely worried-
    please, don't come to harm.

    Indeed it is,
    Sadly it is.

This story is about a spider yet is a metaphor indeed,
Its words are a story, a tragedy to read.

    It's sad, I know, but I guess I was.
Life was just meh, it just was.

The "Alarm" is a connection between the metaphor and I,
It was to represent a human-device that would be used by a guy.

And last but not least, where's the meaning in what I last said?
I give this poem as a tribute to "No Surprises" by Radiohead.
